Before You Apply--What You Need to Know

Before you apply for an e-Permit, there are some things you will need to consider:

  • Your project must be located within the cities of Bellevue, Bothell, Burien, Duvall, Gig Harbor, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Mill Creek, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, Woodinville or unincorporated Snohomish County.  At this time, only these 13 cities and Snohomish County are participating in e-Permitting.
  • Is a permit required for the work you are doing?
  • If a permit is required, is the permit you need available electronically on this site?  Only electrical, low voltage, mechanical, and plumbing permits that do not require plans are available electronically.
  • If a licensed contractor will be doing the work, he must register at our site.  This allows us to verify that the contractor has the appropriate state and local licenses to do the work.  If you are a property owner applying for a permit but having a contractor do the work, your contractor will need to complete our online registration process before you can obtain a permit.  There is specific information your contractor will need to complete the registration form.

After you’ve determined you are ready to apply for an e-Permit, you will need the following to actually apply online:

  • Contractor registration/verification approval from the city(s) you will be obtaining an e-Permit from
  • A City business license (contractors doing work are required to obtain business licenses in the cities in which they will be working)
  • A printer
  • An e-mail address
  • A VISA or Mastercard
