What Permits Can You Get Electronically?

You may transact limited-scope, over-the-counter electrical, low voltage electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and re-roof permits on this site. Generally, these are permits that do not require plans, calculations, other agency approval or staff interaction.  Combination building permits that normally include electrical, low voltage electrical, mechanical and/or plumbing work are not available at this time. The following permit types are available electronically:

  • Electrical Permits—installing or altering electrical service, wiring, or circuits in existing buildings.
  • Mechanical Permits—installing or altering fuel gas piping, heating, ventilation, or cooling equipment within existing buildings.
  • Plumbing Permits—installing or altering water or drainage piping, including the associated fixtures in existing buildings.
  • Low Voltage Electrical Permits—installing low voltage wiring in existing buildings.
  • Re-Roof Permits—installing new roofing material or modifying or replacing the sheathing.

Note: Sammamish requires an Earthquake Shut-off valve to be installed when gas services are expanded.

Note:  Snohomish County requires re-roof permits for 10 squares (1,000 square feet) or more only.

Snohomish County does not require permits for minor repair work or fixture replacement, provided that the fixture is not being relocated or, in the case of a hot water tank, its fuel type/source is not changed.

Snohomish County does not process electrical permits.  Electrical permits within unincorporated Snohomish County are handled by the Department of Labor and Industries.
